Caliper Placement
Caliper placement is not complicated and isthe same method on many truck models. Pressing the brake pedal acts on thecalipers pistons, resulting in pressure in the brake line. This pressure leads to the displacement of the caliper pistons, which pushes the brake pads onto the wheel-mounted brake disc and presses on both sides. The friction resulting from this movement causes the braking effect on vehicle. In addition, the function of the caliper is to keep the linings in a strictly parallel position with respect to the brake disc.
The caliper device is not complecated. It includes pistons connected to the pneumatic system, to which the brake pads are attached. The location and number of brake shoes and the method of connecting of caliper to the hub may vary and depend on vehicle model. The most common scheme is two pads per wheel and two-point mounting to the hub.
Caliper Failure Symptoms
The caliper should be superior quality. Under the influence of friction, which occurs during braking, the brake pads and the caliper are heated. Therefore, in addition to mechanical strength, it is subject to serious requirements in terms of heat resistance and high heat transfer rate to prevent jamming of pistons and deformation of parts of the brake system.
The booting of the guide is an inconspicuousdetail at first glance, but its defect can cause the caliper to jam.
In addition to situations in which the brake system is not operating clearly, other signs may indicate that the brake caliper will malfunction in the near future. In particular, this is a crunch and hit in the area of calipers. A squeak appearance shows an increase infriction processes that gradually destroy the mechanism. The problems that leadto it are diverse. This is the bending of the brake pads or the incorrectly worn brake discs (as a result of which a secretion may occur in the steering wheel).
Also, if the piston boot is torn, a caliper replacement may be required. This is fraught with the interior of the caliper, especially its cylinder, becoming defenseless without penetrating the dirt, increasing the friction between the piston and the cylinder, and also provoking the formation of rust that causes the inevitable compression of the piston.
Since the calipers can be considered conditionally available parts, some drivers do their repairs at home on their own. In principle, basic inspection and initial repairs are not particularly difficult.
Standard caliper repair has phases such aslubrication of rails and replacement of luggage anthers.
First of all you need to disassemble the caliper, completely clean it from the old grease and apply a new one. You also need to check the degree of wear and aging of the rubber seals and reassemble the structure. If no emergency occurs, the process does not take much time.
Starting with removing Wheel from the vehicle mounted on the supports. To replace the brake pads, it is often sufficient to remove the single screw located at the bottom of the screw, which fixes the support to the elbow. The brake caliper should not be separated from the channel in order to prevent further leakage. If a problem with the piston or other caliper parts is detected, it is better to attend to the service to get it repaired.
